From Food Waste to Fertiliser: TGC Asia Explores the World of Composting
As part of TGC Asia's commitment to promoting sustainability and encouraging more environmentally conscious habits among employees, the company recently hosted a "Composting 101: Turning Food Waste into Fertiliser" workshop in collaboration with Zero Waste Malaysia.
Conducted by sustainability advocate Wicia Fong, the interactive session introduced staff to the realities of food waste in Malaysia and highlighted how everyday food scraps can be transformed into valuable compost instead of ending up in landfill.
Many participants were surprised to learn about the environmental impact of food waste and how simple actions at home can contribute towards reducing waste and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The workshop also demonstrated practical composting methods suitable for households, making sustainability feel achievable regardless of living space or prior experience.
To make the session even more engaging, participants took part in an interactive quiz that tested their knowledge on food waste and composting, sparking lively discussions and challenging some common misconceptions along the way.
Beyond the technical aspects of composting, the workshop served as a reminder that sustainability does not always require large-scale initiatives. Often, meaningful change begins with small, everyday decisions — from reducing food waste to rethinking what we throw away.
The session also provided an opportunity for employees to interact with sustainability practitioners, ask questions, exchange ideas and gain practical tips that they can apply both at home and in the workplace.
